I have one, and I use a tubed preamp (cj pv10). I would not call the Jolida cdp mushy at all. I heard Rotel, Arcam FMJ, Naim 3, and preferred the Jolida -- the cheapest one. You can alter the sound to some extent by your choice of tubes. I use NOS tubes in both the Jolida and my pre. I like the Tungsram 12ax7 (got them from Upscale Audio) in my Jolida. Not mushy or indistinct at all, plenty of bass and hf extension for me, and no harsh, brittle or bright digititis. I bought my Jolida (new) from Underwood for I think $770.
