The cables MUST be shielded to protect against EMI/RFI. The cables should also have as low a capacitance as possible to prevent loss of high frequency information. Unfortunately, really low capacitance can't be achieved with shielded wire.The "Catch 22" described above can be dealt with. The component driving the cables must have a very low O/P impedance and superior drive capability. Then, as long as the total cable capacitance is moderate, shielded wire works fine. I can't say if your DTV receiver is capable of driving long length shielded cables without a negative impact on the sound. Even if the receiver lacks the drive needed, you can still achieve your objective. Buy or build a buffer with the necessary electrical characteristics and insert it between the receiver and the long interconnects.
If you decide to acquire a buffer, I suggest a tube/FET hybrid unit. That would give you good sound along with the electrical "sock" necessary.
