Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Hi all. I'm officially discharged from the Asylum (too busy with "real life") but I'd like to drop back in to give a positive mini-review on this preamp. It's a two-chassis design with separate power supply, the signal chassis being a little, almost toylike thing with 6 tubes on top and three cheapo knobs on the front. But the sound is great! Spacious, detailed, super-smooth, it already excels my modded ARC SP3 and I haven't even tried any tweaks on it that have worked for me on other components (brass feet, Hal-Os, Silclear etc.) There is a nice synergy with my Wright Mono 3.5s apparently. Minimum parts count, zero feedback, point-to-point wiring seem to be the way to go.I'd encourage anyone interested in a tube preamp to check out George Wright's models. You should be aware that he sometimes has used or demo units that he offers with warranty (but without return privledge) for about 2/3 of list. Some of these he lists on Audiogon, but not all.
Disclaimer: my only relation to Wright Sound is as a satisfied customer.
