Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

Hi
I happened upon a pair of CBS Hytron 5814a, reddish orange lettering that is very faded. Square getter, two mica, dark (maybe black) plates, 3 ribs on plates, says "JHY 5814A" with CBS logo barely visible. Vertical lettering is almost impossible to read - is that the date code? I have seen the threads on here saying the 1950's versions of this tube are great. Don't know the date on these, but they are among the finest 12au7's I have ever had in my power amp, period. Luckily, these are very low noise, and are good in all aspects. Any way to date them...? Just curious.thanks
