How about metal base TFK EL 34 but I haven't made a comparison since I got only a pair, not quad set. Someone suggested that it's second to Genalex KT 77(large gold lion logo)There are many good EL 34 tubes but would work differently with different amp and speakers. It's a matter of taste and opinion. However, it's easier to classify some tubes to be bad sounding, irrespective of equipment.
