I am not sure abut that, I hae some used TV sweep tubes that are stained brown, and are metal plated....Looking for an answer as well. Lets think about what else is inside that envelope which is getting hot. Cathode emulsion is all white as far as I have been able to tell, and certainly none is used for thoriated tungsten...
