I own a Cary SLI-80 integrated amp (powered by 6550 or KT-88 tubes) and an older model SLI-50 powered with EL-34 tubes. I believe that every type has its merits. If you want more slam for the sake of subtleties, take a KT-88/6550 powered amp. In this case, however, I would advise you to keep the EL-34 powered gear as well - otherwise you will miss it!Good luck,
