I recently got a Mercury Preamp from deHavilland. It's a real winner. It has a really vibrant tone and gets the music right. It takes about 15 minutes to warm up, then it plays it's heart out.Very nice build quality and quirky cool looks. Bass is round and full, pretty tight and tuneful. The midrange is lovely, very expressive. The highs are clean and a tiny bit rolled off.
I decided it sounded so good it deserved a bit of extra modding, and I can't leave well enough alone. So I bypassed the output trims, and replaced the output caps with some Audio Note copper in oil caps. The result is a wild ride. Amazing dynamics, more transparency, more detail. It's the icing on the cake.
Hats off to Kara and George for an excellent preamp, and for excellent customer service!
