The Sonic Life of Tubes

I have Audio Research equipment and have found that I should replace the SED 6550 power tubes at around 2000 hours, even though they still test strong. Replacing them restores the fullness, richness and magic of tube sound.

Should I also replace the small signal 6922’s and 12BH7’s while they still test strong? Do small tubes rated at 10,000 hours lose their magic at 5,000 hours? I always tossed the Russians at 5,000 hours but now I’m using expensive NOS tubes and don’t want to be foolish.
