After the amp smoked he sent it to ARC to be repaired. They told him that the Vt 130 SE is a "hot rod" circuit that does not use a cathode follower and when a KT 88 is inserted in the circuit it self distructs. I am not an EE. I can't say much about this other than that is the story they told him as to why his amp fried. He uses 6550's only now with no further problems.
