The VT 50 is designed with the S.E.D. 6550 and has amazing bass when used with this tube. Forget about using any other output tube with this amp. I have one and the bass is about as good as it gets. It's bass sounds like the bass from a VT 100 MkII. Read a few reviews of the 100 mkII and see what they say about the bass. These amps do not respond well to output tube rolling. Don't bother with the EH 6550 in these amps. The EH is a great tube in the right amp, just not that amp. Get the "Winged C" S.E.D. and you will fall in love with that amp.Were the input and driver tubes replaced as well?
