Indeed! :0) I am prone to overstatement, hyperbole, and histrionics. (Now say something that we don't know, right?) The JJ is not as bad as I may have said, but it's pretty bad. I think the current production 12AX7s to get are the Svetlana (forgot about that until I read your post; nice, mellow tube) and the Sovtek LPS. The LPS has a very neutral quality; it has a bit less depth than 1960s RCA 12AX7a but is a damn fine tube. I used to say the only 12AX7 even worth consideration is the Ei/Yugo, but even the 2004 grey plate new production stock has TOTALLY unacceptable QC. I measured differences in the two triode sections of 20-30 percent on many tubes, and many of the good ones had shorts and unbelievable microphnics. A damn shame too because the 15 year old Eis (and even 2001 production when tested) are right up there with many boutique 12AX7s. Anyway, I appreciate the opportunity to post despite my personal idiosyncracies. I'm working on it, though--- even when a fellow inmate posted a reply to my post that accused me of "smoaking Crak" I just replied that I found it unaaceptable, and politely lampooned his poor spelling, lack of respect and judgment, while also telling him in mild terms what he can "do" Compared to the past, that is a 99.99% turnaround!
