This is the schematic from the user manual. As you can see, there's no choke around...This leads me to suspect that either a coil or a resistor has been left out.
The 0.22uF in parallell with the big, honking 1100uF looks a bit suspicious to me. I know that a smaller bypass cap is often used, but as you said - loading a rectifier at 250 times max seems odd.I think I'll have to turn it upside down and poke around inside to verify the schematic...
