I have an old Sylvania 12AX7 with center 'bump' type shiney black plates and a wide extension on each side of that center 'bump' plate area. It is like an extra wide plate section to increase the plate dissapation and it extends almost to the glass. The plate height is approximately 13mm.
The tube has a square getter, thus is most likely a 1950s era tube.
Is this the design you are refering to?
