Hi. Matsushita Electric Corp. of Japan is better known as "PANASONIC" overseas. The company was a major tube manufacturer in the 50s through the 70s. Matsushita had a licensing agreement with Dutch Philips, so Matsushita tubes look very much like Philips counterparts. Thanks to the company's very tight quality control, tubes manufactured by Matsushita are very good and sound very fine. The 5-letter word in a circle with small lightening at the top and the bottom (i.e., the company logo) you mentioned reads "National" in Japanese, a brand name Matsushita had been using for many years for their consumer electric products before they decided to use "PANASONIC" instead.
