The 6SN7 and the 6SL7 have significantly different electrical characteristics. They share the same pin-outs, but that's pretty much where it stops. The 6SL7 has a BUNCH more gain than the 6SN7 and wouldn't be too smart to use one in a circuit designed for the 6SN7.
