EL38 trioded is similar to a 6L6 strapped as a triode but mu is about 15 . Rp is slightly higher so if you're shooting for a class A operating point , high impedence output transformers will need to be used . As transconductance / mu is high the use of a low Rp driver valve would probably be beneficial . Don't worry about screen grid ratings for triode strapped pentodes , I have used various valves well over the G2 rating as triodes . For instance 2E24 , which has 200V G2 rating , has no problems running at 400V HT as a triode . Probably the best usage for triode strapped EL38 would be driving small electrostatic panels directly , hopefully one day I'll give this a try ;)
