They are essentially the same tube with different claims and some slight differences in things like "cooling wings" on particular models. The old GEC KT88 are very nice. Tung Sol 6550 are very nice as well. There can be as much of a difference between brands and vintages of 6550s as between 6550s and KT88s. People seem to like the winged C KT88 new production. They are essentially a 6550C in a pretty bottle. IMHO YMMV ETC
