Which brand of 7591 do you prefer?>My recent experiments led me to put the 6J5 in my TL25+ in the preamp socket, which is how I started to listen to them - this is only days ago. Concertina was a 12B4, zero global NFB, and this is what I'm listening to now, and it's very satisfying. I only had some 6L6 out of a Fender amp but was surprised how good they sounded. My heater supply is limited to about 1 amp per output tube, so I ordered some of the new EH 7591, since I read good reviews and always liked the sound of my old integrated McIntosh that used it. So as yet I've no idea. I have four 7868 but no novar sockets (on order). So right now, I can't help. As regards the sound I like, I tend to make changes that give me more clarity - clearer diction on vocals, more detectable inner parts within the orchestra, and barely audible low-level licks on things like Steely Dan CDs. These are great for prototyping - they have all manner of little effects at various levels of audibility. Plus it's great music. Currently listening to Solti Meistersinger with the Pinnacles. Very nice.
