We have a dealer here bringing some PEARL tubes from the USA.He is asking between the equivalent of between US$80 to US$90 for a single 6922.I have taken a good look at those 6922s which he recommends to be used in the
CAT SL 1 MK3(which he is selling). These 6922s are actually Sovtek 6922s treated with an elaborate process.According to PEARL these 6922s are 'deep chilled annealed at -320 degree F for 24 hours, to reduce thermal noise and microphonics, lower dynamic noise floor and increase the apparent gain'.The pins are 'hot dipped ,bright pinned using 60/40 tin/lead solder for improved contact quality'.These tubes are then tested for transconductance, noise, microphonics, plate current, (not D.C. balanced though, as required by certain power amps.)etc....with a comprehensive label on each tube showing all these datas.
However, I have not bought these tubes because I do not know the prices in the States and unsure if our local dealer here is overcharging (maybe you can enlighten me on US prices of PEARL 6922s).They cost more than many NOS
6922/7308/2493 and I am unsure if treated Sovtek 6922s sound as good or better than NOS.
Maybe someone who has made comparisons can shade some light on the sound quality after these scientific treatment on Sovtek 6922s.We may have something to turn to once the world runs short of NOS if these PEARLs are of really good.
