I recently purchased new Svetlana 6550C tubes for my C-J 11A power amp. One has not got any silver coating (getter flash?) at the top, just a darkening of the area where the silver should be.
Tube supplier says "not to worry" and the ultimate arbiter (my ears) can't detect any problem. However, I'm puzzled. I thought the whole point of the silver sputter is to indicate that there is a good vacuum in the tube. Any comments?Jeremy
