I put the following posting is on the Transcendent site. In fairness to all, I feel I should reproduce it here:
Anyone can evaluate a Transcendent product free for two weeks. I tried to get the same deal from Atma-Sphere and they were willing to allow me to evaluate their amplifier under the same listening conditions (my home) as the Transcendent if I made a "down payment" to the dealer. When I tried to get clarification on their return policy they were adamant that down payment meant down payment. Since I could not confidently return their product and get my money back should I have chosen to, I did not to make the down payment. Therefore, I could not evaluate the Atma-Sphere under the same conditions as the Transcendent.
Rather than debating the relative philosophical merits of one set of ancillary stereo equipment verses another I would suggest anyone who is curious purchase a Transcendent for evaluation. If what you have is better than the Transcendent return it and all you will be out is shipping and insurance.
Jack G. asks why I posted my original message on both the Transcendent and Audio Asylum sites. This is a fair question and frankly, I did it because Bruce Rosenblit (of Transcendent) asked me to. He asked me to because he knew how satisfied I was with the product. That I have reported the experiences I had that led me to the purchase Transcendent was strictly my idea and now I wish I hadn't done it. I must also state at this time that I am not an employee of Transcendent nor do I receive any monetary or non-monetary benefits from Transcendent what so ever.
My motivation was to relate to other consumers contemplating a step into high-end stereo my experiences with an industry, which in general seems to me to be expensive, long on snake oil and short on reality. Atma-Sphere recommends using Wattpuppy speakers with their amplifiers. Maybe that is the ultimate set-up. However, a pair of Wattpuppy speakers cost $18,000. Are they 45 times better than my $400 CR9s? You're asking the wrong guy. With Transcendent I have a stereo that I like to listen to, has elicited a constant stream of compliments from acquaintances and jealousy from people who have spent substantially more on their stereos. I also have enough money leftover to prepay some of my mortgage and buy a BIG pile of CDs.
Please don't anyone ask me any more questions on the topic of Atma-Sphere vs. Transcendent, as this is the last posting I will make on the subject.
In addition, I should add I have never been a manufacturer or seller of audio equipment or will I become one.
