Hi Michael !Sorry I won't be able to answer all the ?'s for you but I think that both of them point to point wiring. I have also mailed Cary about the sound quaility of the 2 preamp your talking about and he told me that the 98 is softer sounding than the 50............ the 50 being more dynamic... I'm a dynamic freak so I prefer the 50...... butta if you have'nt visited the Cary website here's the address....... tube pricing specs are there..... I hope you find it informative....
