Tom,
Yeah, I've studied most of the dorp-in boards also, but I want to see if I can hear some of the differences between brand of parts that other claim too. So while swapping parts in and out a lot I'm going to stay with the stock board for awhile.I will probably go with a Sound Valve board mostly because it uses different tubes, remember my goal is to hear different Components for myself.
I'm doing it this way because I'm the one that listens to it and I want it to sound good to me not the guys at the local High-end Shops. Sure I value and respect others opinion, but in the end it's only opinions and of course I have my own too.
So far I have only done the input mod. I still need to put larger caps in, as recommended, for stronger bass. I had to use what I could find, for good or bad. I used:
2) .022MFD 100VDC Mylar (imported by JE - Jacques Ebert Assoc.)
2) 820PF 500VDC Dipped Silver Mica (imported by JE - Jacques Ebert Assoc.)
2) 10K 1/4w 2% PhilipsECG
2) 470K 1/4w 2% PhilipsECGI agree someone should do a Review of the different boards, but not really a comparison but more along the lines of characteristics of each in the same Amp and system. At least we would now which board would stand a better chance of being to our liking.
E-mail me and we can get more detailed and learn together
BTW, I have a No-Jive As well, cool Yo.
Later Dude! And keep me posted on your ST-70 project,
Jeff
