Hello all,Hadn't herd they were going out of business...I talked to the folks at Panor a week or two ago, and they didnt seem as they no longer made Dynaco. As far as I know, J&R is the only place to buy Dynaco, so maybe sales slipped too far for them to stay around???
Anyway...I have the PAS4 tube pre and really like it. Its a quality, well built unit. Sounds absoloutly wonderful, after u get the junk Wima metalized caps outa there! I dont think the CD players are built in the US like the amps and preamps...I believe that the older CDV1 was built in Korea in the same plant as Proton gear. The newer CDV2 and Pro are built in Japan, by Marantz\Philips, I think.
A friend of mine, who also has a PAS4, has a CDV1. I would say the CDV1 is a nice player. Not built to the quality of their preamp, but still nice. It has a Philips transport, like the current models. It has a nice smooth sound [for a CD player].
I'm also a bit curious about the performace of the CDV Pro. I've been trying to convince myself to get one...but with the comming of SACD later this fall, its hard for me to justify spending $800 on a outdated technology [I much prefer the outdated technology of vinyl]. From what I've been told, the CDV Pro is one of "the" bang-for-the-buck CD players on the market today. I've never herd one, but everyone I've communicated with who has one claims them to be impossible to beat at their price.
Hope I was of some help
:-)
StevePS...Panor\Dynaco's phone # is 516-434-1200 if U want to call em.
