I heard the VTL amps with the VTL preamps. Most tube amps should have the proper input impedence to be used with a tube amp. Input sensitivity maybe a problem if it's over 1.5 volts.I did email VTL at mail@vtl.com and they said passives were no problem. BTW, the emails were answered by Bea Manley, co-owner of VTL. She was very nice and answered all of my questions, and I haven't bought a piece from them yet. Contact them there for the real scoop, they answer very promptly.
I heard the VTLs from the TT25s to the mighty Wotans. Guess which amps reaaly impressed me. Of course the tiny triodes. I want them bad and I'm working on getting a pair. You beat me to them, dang nab it!
So the bottom line is hook up all your stuff and let er rip. If you have problems, let me know. I've seen a few problems in my time with passive pres and I may know how to fix them.
