Well I've lost a channel in 2 amps and had to send them in for repair. One was the Odyssey Stratos and the other the Llano A200. Both ss. As far as tube amps I've been playing with antiques and the only failure has been the power switch on a 15-16 year old c-j. Using a meter to bias is no big deal if you have good instructions. Hell, everybody who owns a house or car ought to know how to make basic use of a VOM anyway. Seriously, check your bias everyday for the first week or so to make sure all the tubes are going to hold bias, then do it once a month or so. Its no worse than periodically checking the oil in your car. I do like built in LEDs (c-j) or meters (Marantz), but unless something goes wrong with tube or the amp, the bias isn't going to change fast enough to cause catastrophic damage due to aging or anything.
