As one of the most sarcastic people around (by others' accounts), I
appreciate and usually enjoy good sarcasm from others. However, in defense
of my fellow Matissa owner and sometimes-mentor, BobM, I think it is only fair to point out that I have previously referred to the dangers of
extolling the virtues of your own equipment. How can bias not be a factor?
The potential bias of a salesman who has fifteen different lines to offer
pales in comparison to the bias of an owner. Take one quick look at all the
rave reviews of mid-fi (and less, however those terms might be defined)
gear on the Audioreviw site and tell me "owner's pride" and "owner's bias"
is not the predominant factor in those reviews.
Bob's point about the ultimate cost of a "full montified" (like that one?)
DNA.5 (or DNA1) can't be disputed. I happen to have been the owner of a
DNA.5 Deluxe which I loved for one year before I (er, my amp)got the Rev. A treatment from Steve McC. I also agree with you that the $850 it cost me
was worth every penny, with the possible exception of the cost of that
expensive blue LED (did you know blue LEDs cost significantly more than
the more typical red or green?).
My point is that I don't think BobM in any way meant to question the
wisdom of modifying the DNA gear.
