I tried Sovtek KT-88's in my Antique Sounds AQ-1002. The worst sound I've ever heard outside of a console phonograph. No highs, no lows, mid-bass bulge, no mids, thick, gloppy, phasie mess. The best soud? Chinese KT-88's,
until one of them shorted out and burned up a circuit board. Now? Using Svetlana 6550C's. Colder than the Chinese, not as lush yet fast, but otherwise OK. And, ultra-reliable plus they hold their bias.
