Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Re: One More time....Anyone ever see this 6SN7 ?

Note that the label on the tube states Measurements, not Measurement. There was (is?) a test equipment mfgr named "Measurements Corp." or something close to that. They're frequently cited in the specs pages of early Heathkit audio stuff as one of the test equipment mfgrs. As you know, in those days if you bought enough tubes you could have them branded any way you wanted. No doubt that's what you have here. Doubt if there's anything special about it other than it might have been tested for tube to tube or possibly section to section consistency. And that was before it ended up in your stash. Since tubes like this were delivered OEM, your example is most likely a used "pull".

If there was a 6SN7 type tube that would have been specifically "designed" for measuring apparati it probably would have been the red base 5692. Interestingly, although held in high esteem by audio types today, the specs I've seen for the 5692 address long life and application specific reliability in an industrial environment. Parameters important to a 21st century audiophool didn't seem to be too high on the priority list.
