Opinions on Ei ECC82?

I've done a search and found that the Ei ECC83 are generally well received. I use one of these in my headphone amp and agree that they are very good. What about the Ei ECC82 tubes? Are they as good as the ECC83's?
Reason I'm asking is that I currently have 4 Ei ECC82's in my amp and I'm finding the sound somewhat veiled. I sounds like I'm listen through a curtain. I'm not sure if this would be fixed by replacing the ECC82's, or the Chinese KT88's.
