I am using the Sylvania green lettering GTB's in a DIY preamp based on the Foreplay, but with modifications to that design. I like them greatly, and did find a slight improvement using the long plate version (I had a large lot to choose from.) Perhaps someone out there can tell me whether these are an earlier version (they look earlier than 70's, but I am no expert.)Frankly, there are so many variables in system components, circuits, etc., that I find it somewhat silly to talk about the "best" version of a tube as if it were best in all apps. I have heard a kit 2A3 amp with new tubes sound better than NOS meshplates in a far more expensive amp in side by side comparisons, which you would think should not be possible.
My two cents.
