Re: Stereo tube amp suggestions?

Also consider spending a little less and investing in tube amp friendly speakers. The power output isn't as important as many first think. Some of the best tube amps only have a 2-3watts>>

I agree completely with the last two statements but not the first. I listen to Maggies and I would NOT change them for high-efficiency speakers. I've tried loads - horns, arrays, single cone multirange speakers, vintage Altecs, Goodmans and Vitavox etc etc. I'm happy with the tone and realism of Maggies and so are thousands of other users. To me these speakers are totally tube friendly - easy to drive and sound good with even 12 watts into them in a not too large room. There is a tendency to make the assumption that high efficiency speakers are the gospel truth and everyone should use them. Forgive me for thinking that this is just a passing fad based on the re-discovery of some very nice and euphonic tubes like the 45. Doesn't change the fact that a lot of serious musicians listen to panels because of their lifelike reproduction. There are some nice amps out there that can put out 15-25 watts. It's not hard to do.
