Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I'm moderately technically competent, but I could use some assistance here. The best way, and perhaps by definition, the only way to know how a tube performs in a circuit is to test it in that circuit. Your tube amp, preamp, whatever, is the ultimate tube tester. My question is how do you do it. Okay, so you put the tubes in the, say for this example an amp, warm it up, then take a volt meter and very carefully touch the probes connected to such volt meter to certain lugs of the tube sockets. Then what? What do you look for?
The guitar amp folks have some nifty devices for biasing tubes in circuit. Those things that go between the tube and its socket. Anyone found those useful?
Thanks.
