I have never had much luck getting the sound I want from E88CC . 6SN7 to me is a better valve . Allen Wright swears by the E88CC , but uses them as followers and cascodes which is what they were originally intended for . Why on earth suggest using a 12AU7 ? The 12AU7 family of 'general purpose' tubes are some of the most nasty sounding of all (high order distortion nastiness) , but they're cheap and still in production I suppose . 12AX7 belong in guitar amps , very flat sounding to me , too much gain , too high Rp to be of much use (to me)....FB
