Shannon,In reviewing your list, what "tube geek approved names" are you after?
Your descriptions are very good. I wish tube sellers were as careful.
The little rings at the top of the small tubes is the "getter" which is coated with a metal Barium that causes the silver coating on the glass. This coating- "getter flashing" converts gases that occur as the tube ages. When that silver coating is used up, the tube is shot. The GE with the horseshoe-shaped getter must be quite a bit older- the "D" getter or a square one was used in the 50's, the round ones usually later.
The "Tube Dude" on the Amperex 6DJ8 is the "Bugle Boy" - a more expensive model of Amperex, but I like Tube Dude better. Those are very good ones. The "GAB 46G2" is a "date code" so that you can decipher the type, year, week, and factory when it was made. "GA" is a 6DJ8, but the "46G2" is not right or I could tell you the age and factory.
The "Fisher" tube was made by Amperex/Philips Holland and relabelled by the Fisher Co. for use in their equipment, but Fisher did not make them. I have Fisher marked tubes, but made by Telefunken in Germany.
Repost with any more terminology that is interesting.
But leave off the "tube geek." We're cool, man- just chilling in our respective cribs.
Cheers,
Bambi B
