Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I was going through a junk drawer over the weekend and found an old pair of Lindsey-Geyer interconnects, the stiff wire jobbies with the brown cloth cover and wooden end pieces. I hadn't used these things for about 10 years and I was real curious how they would sound, since I am now using tube amplification and old Altec monitors.
Well right off the bat they sounded very nice, a noticible reduction in sibilance with no loss of high frequency detail.
Then I started digging out all the various tubes that I have aquired for my amp (modified Audio Note Kit 4) over the years. After trying a lot of different combinations I put in a set of Sylvania 6SN7's with red printing, and a pair of Telefunken 12AX7 smooth-plates. None of these had ever seen much time in the amp before because I had better sounding combinations of other tubes...or so I thought.
Holy Crap! It's as if I have a whole new system, with better resolving power than before. And it didn't cost me a thing. So now my Audio Researcg Litz-link cables are gathering dust on the floor behind my equipment cabinet. These $200+ cables got their asses soundly kicked by some goofy-looking $90 cables.
I have a few pairs of different types of Sylvania 6SN7's that I would like to swap for??? Email if you are interested.
