I believe there are two 12AX7s in the FM-3 and both are audio frequency tubes, so replacing them eg. with Ei Elites would certainly be a cheap and good move. Also clean all contacts and the volume pot with DeOxit or Progold. Then see how it goes. Replacing all remaining old electrolytics in the signal path might be next.If all else fails, you can get another FM-3 off epay for under $100, and save your present one for parts (the magic eye tube in particular is unobtainium except by cannibalization.)
