Yes go NOS Amperex or Mullard but only if cost is not a factor. If it is, take a look at the Electro-Harmonix 6CA7 fat bottle or Svetlanas. Don't entirely rule out Chinese tubes either. I understand Valve Art produces an EL34 that sounds pretty good.
