Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Hi I use a Antique Sound lab Mgsi 15- the one that has no bias control.
I have it for 2 years using the same tubes ( I listen to about 5-6 hrs
per week). I enjoy the sound but find every now and then one side of
the channel is lower than the other. When I took it to a dealer to listen to some new speakers, the dealer notice the problem and help me replaced
the input tubes ( changed from Sovtek 12AX7WXT TO Sovtek 12AX7LP). Now after 1 week, the same situation happen again to the new tubes. My question is this a tube failure or is it the amp ? Can I assume since there's no bias control I can just plug in new tubes ? Does the fact that the power tubes has not been changed for two years may affect that although I am not complaining about the sound quality just the balance? Is there a more tube friendly way of operation like not turning it on for a short period ( say 10 min) ?
thanks in advance.
Robert**BTW the new JMLab Cobalt 806 match well with this amp.
