MrT,If they're supercheap, go for it and see what you think. I have to say, however, that I wasn't overly impressed with either, at least not in their late-production incarnations.
The Brimar was beguilingly vibrant and creamy. Right away, you know you're not listening to any tube currently made. Ultimately, however, it was too dark, and occasionally I thought that the treble it did reproduce was slightly hashy. It seemed to be a poor man's version of the Mullard sound (although it wasn't that cheap when I bought it). The RTK was almost the opposite in tonal balance, with lean bass and dry highs. Because my system errs on the side of emphasizing the upper-midrange and treble, the RTK was tough on the eardrums.
Other folks here have talked about how much they like both of these tubes, so I'm willing to admit I may be the odd man out on this. Maybe you'll have better luck with them.
Best, John
