el-84 replacements, Sovtek any good?

Hi there, i recently bought an old lafayette however i don't know how long the tubes have been running (the originals are still in) so i was wondering wether replacing them with a pair of sovteks would be a good idea. By the way it's been modified to a "no negative feedback triode".
don't know how but the guy who sold it to me said it only uses positive feedback.
