Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I have the opportunity to purchase a set of barely used Tesla KT88 tubes from a friend for a very good price. He tells me that I can just directly substitute them for the 6550Cs currently in my cj Premier 11a and they will work. I see that KT88s are listed as a substitute for 6550s in several tube substitution charts but I have never experimented with changing tube types in an amp before. Can these dubes be directly substituted and, if so, would they be biased the same way as the 6550s. My friend seems to think so but it's not his amp so he has nothing to loose. I would rather have a more expert opinion before I go plugging tubes into my amp and possibly blow it up. Has anyone here done this before? (Kevin Deal ?) What results might I expect if this can be done?
Thanks in advance.
