Not referring to your post. Thought it was rather good, actually. For a curmudgeonly old heathen, I actually turn into an old softie around Christmas. We put a tree upstairs and down, keep a pot of mulled cider on the stove, and cook for friends like crazy.Got out of the materialistic side, too, by and large. Small gifts to friends and family of course. But my wife and I don't exchange, and haven't ever. When we first got together, I was in school full-time and it was a matter of economics. When economics became a concern no more, we decided we liked it that way (no one-upsmanship and stuff) and decided for Christmas we would buy together music to listen to and books ton read on Christmas Day.
And this year, thanks to the suggestion of a good and long-time friend, we are going to drop our gift exchange with each other. Instead, he proposed we paln a holiday trip together rather than puzzle over which expensive trinket for each other. So between bowl games and Mardi Gras, we're going to New Orleans together in January.
