i use the vr4 and have tried my upstairs study 300b which is cary audio monoblocks--doesn't work. also tried the little nelson pass 30watter--no dynamics. was driving with arc vt130 x 2 for biamping, sounds ok. best results with the nelson pass aleph 1.2 the wife could hear it also--but had to sell it---the airconditioning cannot handle the load of the aleph 1.2. was considering biamping with them. have sold them to someone else with vr4 gone back to oregon --he agrees the aleph 1.2 is better than the vt130. it is true that most of the pop cds are compressed and they sound it. used to do orchestral recordings with spaced b&k omnis and otari two track 15ips and there is no comparison with the dynamics on cd. am looking to go much more efficient on speakers---used to sell community pa equipment and you have to hear 12inch cones on straight 4ft horns and 400watts to appreciate what kickdrums can do. also m4 compression drivers on straight horns are around 110db efficient and can handle 200watts--now to get a big house but need zillions of bucks in singapore for that.
