In the 12AU7 position, any of the Philips Holland family are most likely your best choice. This would be Mullards made in Great Britain that seem to be the most relaxed on top, Amperex made in Holland by Philips that seem to be the zippiest on top, and Radiotechnique (Dario) which were made in France and seem to be in the middle. All are based on the Philips design and made in Philips owned factories, and indeed look similar, and were usually made in the 1960's. Most of our customers like the Radiotechnique or Mullard because they are slightly relaxed. But if you have speakers are are already relaxed or soft on top use the Amperex. There is no reason not to get matched ones, but more important they should be quiet.
In the 12AT7 position, use Mullards. Specifically the gold pin 6201. I have 12AT7 types that run up to $150 each. But the 6201 is a fraction of that, lasts longer, and can be quieter under duress.
