These will impress his fellow dormmates with their technological "wow" factor, take up very little space, are down -3 db at 45 Hz, are pretty sensitive @ 91 db/2.83V/1 meter, and have a smooth, detailed and non-fatiguing sound. I have their big brothers, the Q3s, and absolutely love them. Should be available online in your price range.
