Selah 3 Review

Hi,

Yesterday I paid a visit to Rick Craig's home. We didn't have a lot of time, as my wife and baby were with me and we were in town visiting her best friend.

Rick has an extremely nice family and my 9 month old, got along very well with his 4 year old boy named Noah, who was extremely well behaved and cute as a button.

I had the pleasure of hearing some new speakers he has just finished, which he dubbed as Selah3's. They are a 3 way speaker with Seas Excel W22's for the bass, 3 inch Accuton for the Midrange and a Philips ribbon for the Tweeter. The fit and finish looked extremely nice and I believe was finished in Cherry. Rick had just finished the system, so there was very little break-in done. I only had about an hour to listen, so we were putting in CD after CD and only listening to short excerpts of my Reference CD's.

What did I hear? First off, the system sounded like one extremely tight cohesive unit. The drivers blended together, to the point that it all sounded like one speaker. The cabinet had to have been very well braced and dampened, as there wasn't any boxy sound. They projected a very nice soundstage. With the bass and mid drivers that were selected for this system, I was expecting a sound that lacked warmth, however I was very surprised to hear a nice warm sound. With the complex classical musical sections I listened to, the system really shined and I was able to hear each individual instrument with very good clarity. I heard all the detail that I was used to hearing. The image in the high register was very nice, however not up to the newform 45 inch ribbon, which costs 4 times as much. I heard very fast transient responses and great microdynamics. I'd sure like to hear it, when it was broken in.

I believe these are going to a customer in New Orleans. If you're reading this, you should really be happy with these.

I don't have a clue to what they cost. If anyone is interested, I'm sure Rick can let you know.

I want to thank Rick for having us over.

Have a great day,

Brad
