Aurgh. Help please. Where is information on why speakers stands effect performance

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

I read on a website awhile back that speaker stands effeect the performance to speakers. Im trying to prove to a friend of mine of this fact since hes only using cheap $50 wood stands. I remember reading the fact that solid rigid stands let the small minute movements of a cone perform with less restistance. If i can get the source of this information it would help qualify my arguement. I dont think it was on the LGSD website. Unless i missed it somehow.
