I have not heard VMPS or Von Schweikert, but I do own a pair of Model 8's. The bass is very sufficient in my fairly large room, and I am only driving them with a 80wpc tube integrated. The midrange is very natural and open. Great imaging. I like to listen to R&R (all cd system), which can be a little harsh on the highs, but the Model 8's tame it as well as could be expected from some of those below-par recordings. Jazz and vocal recordings are smooth top to bottom, with natural timbre and realistic imaging. Every time I fire up my system, I am pleased with what I hear. And I have had this set-up for about 6 months now.Give them a listen if you get a chance...
